The Bride Who Lost Control: A Wedding Tale

Every bride dreams of having the perfect wedding day. From the dress to the venue and the catering, there are so many details to consider. But no matter how much we plan, sometimes things don’t go according to plan – and that’s exactly what happened to this bride. She thought she had it all figured out, but soon discovered that not everyone shared her vision. Let’s dive into her story and find out more.

A Needless List of Rules

A bride-to-be turned to Reddit’s popular ‘AITAH’ subreddit (short for Am I The Asshole) to seek advice on a situation she found herself in. She and her fiancé had sent a list of rules to their wedding guests, and to their surprise, they started receiving cancelations. Before explaining the rules, she wanted to clarify that her fiancé was equally involved in creating them and fully supported their decision.

The Unplugged Ceremony

One of the rules stated that guests were not allowed to have their phones during the ceremony and dinner, unless it was a true emergency. While most guests understood the no-phones-during-the-ceremony policy, some found it excessive to extend it to the dinner as well. Parents who left their children at home argued that they needed to have their phones with them in case of any problems. But the bride firmly maintained that checking on the kids wasn’t an emergency. She said, “If something serious happens, you’ll know.”

The Inflexible Dress Code

Another strict rule involved the color scheme and dress code. Guests were instructed to wear only black, with women wearing dresses and men in tuxedos – no exceptions. Even the bride’s aunt, who had recently transitioned out of mourning and no longer felt comfortable in black, was not granted an exception. Similarly, the bride’s future sister-in-law, who struggled with body dysmorphia and found pants more comfortable, was not exempted from the dress code either.

Weight Watchers for Bridesmaids

To add to the list, the couple ordered bridesmaids’ dresses months in advance and asked their bridesmaids to maintain their weight. Whether that meant eating less or more, these weight-related expectations did not sit well with the bridesmaids. The bride’s own mother was furious about these rules, believing that the wedding was doomed from the start. As a result, bridesmaids threatened to drop out, and wedding guests started canceling last minute.

The Missing Flower Girl

Adding to the chaos, the bride’s maid of honor – who also happened to be her sister – refused to comply with the bride’s request to leave her daughter at a hotel with a babysitter during the ceremony. Instead, she planned on leaving her daughter with their mother since the wedding venue was four hours away. This decision meant that the role of flower girl had to be scrapped.

A Lesson in Reasonableness

Despite the bride’s preface and explanation, many Reddit users still believed that the couple’s demands were unreasonable. They argued that while it’s understandable for a couple to make decisions about their wedding, guests should also have the right to opt out if they think the rules are excessive. In the end, it seemed clear to most that it was the couple who had gone a little overboard.
