A Babysitter’s Extraordinary Act of Kindness Saves a Life

Being a babysitter or a nanny comes with great responsibility. Most caregivers take their job seriously, but some go above and beyond what any parent could ask for. Meet Kiersten Miles, a 22-year-old student from New Jersey, who made a life-changing decision that saved a child’s life.

Kiersten had been babysitting George and Farra Rosko’s three children for only a few weeks when she learned that one of the kids, their nine-month-old daughter Talia, had a rare, life-threatening liver disease. Doctors announced that Talia needed a new liver, and without hesitation, Kiersten made an incredible offer – to donate part of her own liver to save the little girl’s life.

Donating part of your liver is not like donating blood. It involves invasive surgery and certain risks. But Kiersten stood by her decision and applied to be Talia’s donor. When the test results came back, she was a perfect match. The Rosko family was overwhelmed with gratitude, but they made sure not to pressure Kiersten into a decision she might later regret

.

On January 11, 2017, Kiersten and Talia went to the hospital for the 14-hour surgery. Kiersten underwent surgery first, where part of her liver was removed. Immediately after, the transplant was performed on Talia. Both surgeries were successful, and Kiersten stayed in the hospital for five days, while Talia stayed for nine.

The recovery process was swift for both Kiersten and Talia. Today, Talia is a thriving toddler, running around, playing, and eating like any other little girl. It’s hard to believe she recently had a liver transplant.

Kiersten’s selfless act of kindness deserves immense gratitude. In a world that sometimes seems cold and selfish, her actions give us hope and inspiration. She could have chosen to focus on herself, but instead, she willingly took on the risk and effort to give a little girl a chance at life.

If Kiersten isn’t a superhero, then who is? Let’s share this incredible story to spread a little light and hope today!
