It can be frustrating when we try to help someone but they refuse to help themselves. That’s exactly what happened to Ryan Bray, a man from Florida, as he encountered a beggar on his way home from work. Determined to make a difference, Ryan made an offer that could change the beggar’s life forever.
Instead of simply giving spare change, Ryan offered the homeless man a job at his family business, paying him $15/hour. It was a chance for the beggar to get off the streets and start a new life. But to Ryan’s surprise, the man had no interest in finding a real job. He was content with begging on the street, where he believed he could earn more money.
Disheartened by the man’s refusal, Ryan decided to take action. He made a sign of his own and returned to the same street corner. Standing there with his sign, he openly shamed the beggar who had rejected his offer.
The sign warned others not to give money to beggars, explaining Ryan’s failed attempt to help. It boldly stated, “I offered him $15.00 an hour to do yardwork for me, and he refused. If we as a community stop paying them, they will leave our neighborhood!”
The homeless man, however, accused Ryan of lying and claimed that he never received an offer of employment. But the incident left Ryan with a powerful message: sometimes, people have the chance to change their lives, but they need to be willing to help themselves.
