Little Boy Battles Cancer and Returns to School

Cancer is a difficult journey that many of us will experience in our lives. Whether it affects us directly or someone we love, it’s a disease that leaves no one untouched. At Newsner, we’ve covered numerous cancer stories – some heartbreaking, some inspiring, and some triumphant. However, the story of two-year-old Beckett touched our hearts like no other.

Little boy whose photo went viral while he battled cancer gets all clear and is back in school

You may remember the poignant image above. Beckett, then just two years old, was captured in the photo being comforted by his older sister during chemotherapy treatment. His mother, Kaitlin Burge, shared this powerful image on social media in 2019, and it quickly went viral.

Beckett was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia on April 25, 2018, and immediately started treatment. His then-four-year-old sister, Aubrey, had to witness her baby brother’s struggle to walk and play. For 35 days, Beckett fought cancer in the hospital, and Aubrey couldn’t even see him. She knew he was very sick, but it was hard for her young mind to comprehend it all.

Thankfully, Beckett’s treatment was successful, and he is now cancer-free. “I watched my only son go through so much and still smile. I watched my sweet Aubrey push through a difficult time in her life and become so independent,” shared Kaitlin. “She saw her best friend/brother in a state no sibling should ever have to experience.”

After two years of determination and strength, Beckett has defeated cancer and is currently attending school. “He is feeling great, he is done with treatment, and is back to school, currently in the first grade,” Kaitlin revealed.

The bond between six-year-old Beckett and his inspiring sister Aubrey has been strengthened through their unimaginable battle. We are overjoyed that Beckett has received a clean bill of health and that their family can move forward together.

Remember: Tough Times Don’t Last

Stories like Beckett’s remind us to put our own struggles into perspective. Although it may be challenging at times, it’s important to remember that tough times are temporary. There is always an end, even if it’s not yet visible, and better days are just around the corner.

We can’t stress enough how thrilled we are that Beckett has overcome cancer and is now living a healthy life. Cancer is a terrible illness, especially when it impacts innocent children. It’s time to eradicate it from our world once and for all.
