Zoey’s story is both heartbreaking and inspiring. At just three years old, she was diagnosed with cancer. She was a lively and energetic child, always on the move. But then, everything changed.
One day, while playing, Zoey fell. And a couple of weeks later, she started losing power in both of her hands. Worried, her family rushed her to the hospital. Little did they know, they were about to receive news that would shatter their world.
The doctor delivered the devastating diagnosis – Zoey had DIPG, a rare and aggressive brain tumor. It was like a death sentence. Zoey’s family was left feeling lost and unsure of what to do next.
For the next two years, Zoey fought a courageous battle against cancer. Her family explored different treatments, including a clinic in Germany where she responded well to radiation. But eventually, the treatments stopped working, and Zoey’s health declined rapidly.
On July 4, 2018, Zoey peacefully passed away at home. While her loss was devastating, her parents made a brave decision in the days leading up to her death. They chose to share some precious final moments together as a family.
In a heartfelt Facebook post, Zoey’s mother, Casey, shared a photo of herself, her husband, and Zoey – a snapshot of their last moments together. The image captures pure love and shows the family surrounded by the comfort of their home. They spent the day singing Disney songs, with a Harry Potter movie playing in the background. It was a moment of peace and calmness, and then Zoey was gone.
Casey shared this moment because, despite the pain, she saw its beauty. It was a testament to the love they shared as a family. In her own words, “I want those moments captured so I can remember them forever even when my brain is gone.”
Since then, the family has created a Facebook page called Zoey’s Light to spread hope and love. They want to inspire others to come together, support one another, and cherish every ordinary day.
Zoey’s story serves as a reminder to hold our loved ones close and treasure the time we have together. Her courage in the face of adversity and her family’s unconditional love shine as beacons of hope. Zoey may be gone, but the light she brought into the world will continue to shine on.
