Sadie and Lori have been best friends since high school, and their bond has only grown stronger over the years. They even ended up marrying their best friends, Benjamin and Keith, whom they met in school. They were like two peas in a pod!
One day, as they were planning a trip for Keith’s birthday, Lori asked Sadie to book the accommodation while she and Ben took care of the food. Excitement filled the air as they looked forward to a fun-filled adventure together.
As the evening progressed, they all had a great time, laughing and enjoying each other’s company. Benjamin and Sadie found themselves alone on the balcony, and that’s when Benjamin hinted at a surprise he had been working on for Lori. He playfully asked Sadie to keep it a secret, as it had been challenging to hide the “bottles” from Lori.
Curious, Sadie asked Benjamin what he meant by “bottles.” She knew that Lori’s father had struggled with alcoholism, so she wondered if there was any significance to Benjamin’s words. Before Benjamin could answer, Lori joined them, and the conversation quickly shifted to a funny story about getting stuck in an elevator with Keith. Lori seemed to have already heard the story, and she retorted playfully.
Later that night, Sadie couldn’t help but worry about Benjamin’s mysterious words. She confided in Keith, who suggested speaking to Lori if she felt uneasy about it. Keith reminded Sadie that sometimes, alcohol can make people more open and honest, and it might be worth addressing the situation before it gets out of hand.
The next day, during a walk, Sadie mustered the courage to tell Lori what Benjamin had said about the “bottles.” She wanted to make sure Lori was aware of the situation, given her father’s past struggles. Lori was taken aback but tried to reassure Sadie that it couldn’t be what she was thinking. Despite her doubts, Sadie hoped Lori was right.
Later on, when Lori got home early from work, she decided to investigate further. She had a nagging feeling that something was not right. As she searched their house, she noticed a strange smell of gas. Lori realized that if she had turned on the stove, their home could have gone up in flames with both of them inside. It was a chilling realization.
However, her search didn’t go in vain. Behind the towels in the linen cupboard, Lori found the bottles Benjamin had mentioned. To her surprise, they weren’t alcohol bottles at all. They turned out to be antique perfume and other vintage bottles, each with a tag indicating their value. Lori was perplexed. Why would Benjamin be hiding these valuable bottles?
When Lori called Sadie to share her discovery, Sadie was just as bewildered. She had no idea that Benjamin was into antiques or selling them for a profit. It was all a part of his plan to surprise Lori with a trip to Paris for their anniversary. The vintage bottles he had purchased online were meant to fund this dream trip.
Lori couldn’t believe it. Benjamin’s actions were his way of showing his love. The perfume bottles were supposed to be the first surprise, and Paris was meant to be the second. It was a thoughtful and unique way for Benjamin to express his affection for Lori’s love of old movies.
When Sadie shared the whole story with Keith, he couldn’t help but admire Benjamin’s creativity and his love for Lori. Sometimes, surprises come in unexpected forms, and this was definitely one of them.
