Jon and Patsy Ramsey, JonBenet’s affluent parents, became the main focus of the investigation. However, they maintained their innocence throughout the entire process. John Andrew, JonBenet’s half-brother, who was not residing in the family home at the time, firmly believes in their innocence. He also stands by the belief that his half-brother, Burke, who was present during the murder, is also innocent.

During the investigation, John Andrew actively supported retired homicide detective Lou Smit. Smit, considered a legendary detective, relentlessly pursued the truth behind JonBenet’s murder. He worked closely with the Ramsey family as an independent investigator. In the upcoming 20/20 special, we will have the opportunity to see video diaries recorded by John Andrew for the first time, shedding new light on his perspective.

ABC News Legal Analyst Jami Lloyd describes Smit as an exceptional detective, praising the extensive body of evidence he collected over the years, calling it a “virtual encyclopedia of the case.” Sadly, Smit passed away in 2010 before identifying JonBenet’s killer. However, he left behind a list of potential suspects, giving hope that one day the person responsible for this heinous crime will be brought to justice.

Now, at the age of 45, John Andrew remains determined to continue the search for justice in his sister’s case. He asserts, “I believe it’s crucial for people to understand that this case can be solved. We will find this killer.”

In 2008, JonBenet’s parents were officially cleared of any involvement in the murder when investigators determined their innocence. Tragically, Patsy Ramsey, JonBenet’s mother, passed away in 2006 before witnessing her exoneration and the exonerating of her family.
