The Cult Classic Continues

Jennifer Grey reveals the regrets she has about Patrick Swayze

Dirty Dancing will always be one of the best movies of all time. It has captured the hearts of millions and remains beloved to this day. The late Patrick Swayze, who rose to new heights of fame after his role in the film, has left behind a legacy that his co-star Jennifer Grey is still faithful to.

Jennifer Grey is a household name known to millions around the world. Her portrayal of the role “Baby” in the 1987 romantic drama Dirty Dancing gained her thousands of fans and well-wishers.

The movie is set at a vacation resort where Frances “Baby” and her family are staying. It beautifully depicts the love affair between a rebellious dance instructor, played by Patrick Swayze, and Jennifer Grey’s character, Baby.

Dirty Dancing has achieved cult classic status, with fans eagerly hoping for a sequel. However, Grey has made it clear that a sequel might never happen. She believes that if the movie were to be revisited, it has to be done right, in honor of Patrick and the fans’ relationship with the original.

Years later, Grey revealed interesting details about the time of filming. While she and Swayze may not have had off-screen chemistry, their bodies “really liked each other.”

In April 2022, Lionsgate announced at Cinemacon that a Dirty Dancing sequel was in the works. Grey appeared for an interview on The Drew Barrymore Show, where she shared more details about the upcoming sequel.

Grey enthusiastically revealed that the sequel would have everything fans loved about the original: sex, music, and of course, dancing. She expressed her refusal to be a part of the sequel unless it’s perfect.

Additionally, Grey disclosed that some of the original cast members would be returning for the film. The character of Baby has aged, but audiences can look forward to seeing other familiar faces. The sequel aims to be a standalone piece, paying tribute to the original while creating its own unique story.

The late Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey

Patrick Swayze, who sadly passed away in 2009 at the age of 57 due to pancreatic cancer, holds a special place in Grey’s heart. They may have had differences, but in her autobiography, Out Of The Corner, Grey expressed her regrets about not fully appreciating Swayze for who he was during their time together.

The actress deeply misses Swayze and is dedicated to preserving his memory. We send Jennifer Grey our love and best wishes for her future projects. Share this piece with other ‘Dirty Dancing’ fans to keep the legacy alive.
