At the tender age of 98, MaeDell Taylor Hawkins finally met her first great-great-great-grandchild, Zhavia Whitaker. This heartwarming encounter took place in February, and it was a special moment for the matriarch of a large family in Kentucky.
MaeDell, affectionately known as Grandma by her loved ones, has an impressive brood of over 620 grandchildren. With generations of offspring from her own daughters and their children, this remarkable woman has witnessed her family tree blossom and multiply.
The adorable picture capturing the introduction of Zhavia to her great-great-great-grandma was shared online by Gracie Snow Howell, MaeDell’s granddaughter. The image soon gained popularity, capturing hearts all over the world.
“We thought this was special because it’s all girls,” Gracie proudly shared about the multigenerational photo that featured MaeDell, alongside great-granddaughters Frances Snow, Gracie Snow Howell, Jacqueline Ledford, and Jaisline Wilson.
MaeDell’s journey has been one of perseverance and strength. At the age of 16 in 1940, she married Bill Taylor, a 50-year-old railroad worker who had 10 children from a previous marriage. Despite the challenges they faced, including the absence of modern conveniences like running water and a washer and dryer, the couple went on to have 13 children together.
Reflecting on her grandmother’s resilience, Gracie remarked, “I know she had it hard, but she didn’t complain. I’ve never heard my mother Frances complain about our lack of possessions either.”
