It has been a challenging year, as we have bid farewell to several beloved celebrities. Unfortunately, we have more sad news to share. David McCallum, known for his iconic role as Dr. Donald ‘Ducky’ Mallard in the NCIS series, has passed away.

But while many knew him as Ducky, his career spanned over an impressive 70 years, making him a true legend in the entertainment industry. Throughout his long and illustrious career, he had the privilege of working alongside some of the greatest actors of his generation.

Born in Scotland in 1933, McCallum took the leap to pursue acting seriously and moved to the United States in 1961. It didn’t take long for his talent to be recognized, as he landed a role on the immensely popular show The Man From U.N.C.L.E. His portrayal of Illya Kuryakin on the series earned him two Emmy Award nominations, and he appeared in an impressive 105 episodes.

During his career, McCallum had the opportunity to share the screen with renowned stars such as Joan Crawford, Kurt Russell, Sonny and Cher, and Joan Collins. Reflecting on those experiences in 2010, he admitted to feeling starstruck each time.

In 2003, McCallum rejuvenated his career and captured the hearts of a younger audience with his role as Ducky on NCIS. Surprisingly, this opportunity came about unexpectedly. In his own words, he recounted, “I was working on Park Avenue when I received a call from my agent asking if I was interested in auditioning for the role of a lecherous doctor in a new medical drama. I thought to myself, ‘Why not?’”

David McCallum’s passing was attributed to natural causes, according to a statement from New York Presbyterian Hospital. The statement described him as a talented actor, author, and beloved figure worldwide. His legacy will forever be remembered through his family and the countless hours of film and television that he gifted us.

He is survived by his wife, five children, and eight grandchildren. May he rest in peace.
