King Charles has recently opened up about his emotional response to the outpouring of support he has received after his cancer diagnosis earlier this month. The news of the monarch’s illness came as a shock to royal fans worldwide, as it was revealed that doctors discovered the cancer while performing a procedure for an enlarged prostate. While specific details about the type and stage of cancer remain private, Charles has taken a step back from his royal duties to focus on treatment.
Last week, we reported on how Charles has been dividing his time between London and the royal estate of Sandringham. London is where the King is receiving his treatment, while Sandringham serves as a place for him to rest and recuperate. However, this week Charles returned to London to carry out his first in-person engagements since his diagnosis.
Charles, who is 75 years old, was at Buckingham Palace yesterday to hold an in-person Privy Council meeting before meeting with UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. It is worth noting that the past two meetings between Charles and Sunak have taken place over the telephone, following the King’s diagnosis. However, it was always planned for the weekly meetings, a longstanding tradition between British monarchs and their prime ministers, to resume in person on February 21.
After their meeting earlier this week, a video was released by Buckingham Palace showcasing the interactions between Charles and Sunak. In the video, Charles expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming support he has received, saying, “I’ve had so many wonderful messages and cards. It’s reduced me to tears most of the time.” The emotional response from the King highlights the impact of the public’s support during this challenging time.
Despite his diagnosis, Charles remains optimistic and is actively supported by Queen Camilla and Prince William. The royal family is united in their encouragement for Charles to take the time he needs to recover before resuming his duties. However, the situation is made more worrisome by Kate Middleton’s recent abdominal surgery, which will keep her out of the public eye until after Easter.
Let us extend our well-wishes to King Charles and Kate Middleton as they navigate their respective health journeys. If you’re interested in reading more about the Royal Family, check out the articles below.
