Jimmy Carter’s Spirit Remains Strong One Year After Entering Hospice Care

Jimmy Carter's grandson gives update one year after former POTUS, 99, entered hospice care

It has been one year since former president Jimmy Carter entered hospice care, facing a series of health challenges. Despite these hardships, his spirit remains as strong as ever, according to his grandson, Jason Carter.

While the past year has seen significant changes for the Carter family, with the passing of Jimmy’s wife, Rosalynn, and his own health struggles, they remain grateful for the support and love they have received.

Jason Carter shared an update on his grandfather’s condition, saying, “After a year in hospice, on a daily basis, we have no expectations for his body. But we know that his spirit is as strong as ever.” These words reflect the resilience and determination that has defined Jimmy Carter’s life.

The Carter family, as a collective, expressed their gratitude for the outpouring of love and respect they have experienced during this challenging time. They appreciate the numerous conversations sparked by Jimmy’s decision to enter hospice care, encouraging meaningful discussions about an important subject.

Despite the odds, Jimmy Carter has surpassed expectations, remaining in the six percent of people who have lived more than a year after entering hospice care. However, the loss of his beloved wife, Rosalynn, took a toll on him. His doctor, Dr. Michael Raines, acknowledged the deep impact of this loss on Jimmy, stating, “Sometimes people that had been married for a long period of time, and they have a very strong dependency on each other, not only in love but in relationship and friendship when one of them passes away it’s not long until the other one goes.”
