Delta Burke: A Life Away from the Spotlight

Delta Burke, best known for her role as Suzanne Sugarbaker in the hit series “Designing Women,” has lived a life full of ups and downs. After leaving the show, her fame started to fizzle out, and she decided to step away from the spotlight and live life as a regular citizen.

Delta Burke first gained attention when she won the Miss Florida title in 1974. She went on to compete in the Miss America Pageant and studied at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts. Her acting career took off in 1979, starring in films like “The Seekers” and “The Chisholms,” but it was her role in “Designing Women” that made her a household name.

Despite the success of the show, Burke faced difficulties behind the scenes. She was fired by the show’s producers, who accused her of making things difficult for everyone. Burke, on the other hand, claimed that she was psychologically abused. The work environment became unbearable for her, and she couldn’t live like that anymore.

After leaving “Designing Women,” Burke’s appearance changed, and she faced weight battles as well as battles with depression, hoarding problems, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. In 2008, she sought treatment at a psychiatric hospital and focused on her health and happiness.

Throughout all the challenges she faced, Burke’s husband, Gerald McRaney, stood by her side. He has always loved her no matter what, supporting her through thick and thin. Their love story began in 1987 when Burke guest-starred on McRaney’s detective show “Simon & Simon.” Despite opposition from friends, they got married in 1989 and have been happily together ever since.

Nowadays, Burke and McRaney enjoy a quiet life away from the spotlight. They reside in Central Florida, where they plan to spend their days fishing, shelling, and relaxing on the beach. While Burke has given up show business, she continues to pursue her passion for fashion by managing her clothing design company, Delta Burke Design. The brand focuses on providing flattering and comfortable clothing for plus-size women.

While Delta Burke may no longer be in the center of the spotlight, her journey has been one of resilience and self-discovery. She has overcome various challenges and found happiness in her personal life. With the love and support of her husband, she continues to live life to the fullest.
