My Secret Life as a Kid

Being a grown-up comes with its responsibilities and expectations. But sometimes, it’s nice to let go of all the seriousness and embrace our inner child. That’s exactly what happened when my 5-year-old nephew asked me a question that caught me off guard.

One day, he turned to me with his innocent eyes and asked, “Auntie Franny, are you a grown-up?” I couldn’t help but pause for a moment, looking around cautiously. I put my finger to my lips and whispered back, “I’m still a kid, but it’s our little secret. Don’t tell anyone!”

His eyes widened with excitement, and he whispered back with a big smile, “I KNEW IT!” From that moment on, our secret club was formed. Every time we meet, he finds a way to remind me that he’s keeping our secret safe. “Don’t worry, Auntie Franny, I haven’t told them,” he whispers mischievously.

Even during video chats with him and my sister, he manages to sneak an obvious wink. And of course, I wink back, knowing that only we understand the true meaning behind it. It’s our special bond that no one else knows about.

To this day, my nephew is the only person who knows my secret – that I’m still a kid at heart. It’s our little game, our shared secret, and it brings a sense of childlike joy and wonder into my life. So, next time someone asks if I’m a grown-up, I’ll simply smile and think of my secret life as a kid.
