A Touching Reunion: 35 Years Later

When Stacey Faix became pregnant at just 15 years old, she faced a difficult decision. Ultimately, she chose to place her baby boy up for adoption. Little did she know, their paths would cross again 35 years later in a heartwarming reunion.

In November 2017, Pennsylvania passed a law allowing adoptees to access their original birth certificates. This news piqued the interest of Stephen Strawn, an adoptee in search of his roots. Within a month, he held his birth certificate in his hands, revealing details that were once lost.

“It was a big sigh of relief,” Strawn shared. With this newfound information, he embarked on a mission to find his biological mother, Stacey Faix. His search led him to a Facebook profile bearing her name.

“I sent her a message and said, ‘Hey, I have a really weird question. Did you put a baby boy up for adoption in 1982?’” Strawn recalled. Faix confirmed his suspicions and a spark of recognition ignited.

Despite living in different states, their paths were destined to cross. Both Faix and Strawn were part of Team Red, White and Blue (RWB), an organization supporting veterans. Coincidentally, they were set to participate in the same race – the Pittsburgh Half Marathon.

Together again

On race day, Strawn orchestrated a plan that brought tears of joy to his mother’s eyes. As Team RWB gathered before the race, someone handed Faix a card. It bore a heartfelt message: “It’s been 13,075 days since you last saw me. I didn’t want you to wait one more day.”

Faix’s mouth dropped in astonishment. The moment she had yearned for was finally here. “We must have hugged about 10 different times,” Strawn said, recounting their emotional reunion. “It just felt really surreal that it was finally happening because it happened so fast.”

As mother and son embraced their second chance, they also completed the marathon together, making up for lost time. They shared stories, laughter, and caught up on the 35 years they had spent apart.
