Choosing How We Spend Our Time

Thinking about what happens after we die can sometimes be a scary thought. That’s why I love stories that make us pause and reflect on how we want to spend our time here on Earth. There are some incredible tales out there that are not only true but also make us believe in miracles.

One such extraordinary story is about a new mother who came back to life after giving birth. As she felt her newborn’s heart beat on her chest, she suddenly regained consciousness and defied all odds. It’s hard to find words to describe it other than a pure miracle.

But what happens when someone suffers for a long time? It can be incredibly difficult for their loved ones to hold on to hope. They may even wonder if it’s better to let them go. This is exactly what happened in the case of Martin Pistorius, a 12-year-old boy from South Africa.

Martin fell ill and was diagnosed with a degenerative illness, leaving him in a vegetative state. For 12 agonizing years, he was trapped inside his own body. Although he believes he woke up around the age of 14 or 15, everyone around him thought he was completely unaware of the world around him.

Imagine being aware and conscious, but unable to communicate or let anyone know you’re there. Martin experienced this silently suffering for over a decade. He even overheard his own mother saying she wished he was dead. But deep down, he understood that she was heartbroken, unable to bear seeing her son in such a condition.

In a powerful interview with NBC, Martin opens up about what his life was like during those years. This interview sheds light on his experiences, trapped with his thoughts for such an extended period. Witnessing his resilience and his journey will leave you in awe.
