Honoring Our Veterans with Discounts

Many of you may have heard of the veterans discount. Those who have served in the military can avail offers and discounts in many stores and restaurants. It’s a small gesture of appreciation for their service to our country.

A tradition that we associate with certain businesses, the veterans discount has become a way to honor our heroes. And now, a KFC store in Ohio has decided to join the club.

Once the sign was posted by the store, it generated multiple online reactions. It’s amazing how a small act of gratitude can create such a buzz. The store’s policy was to allow all those dressed in uniform to dine for free, regardless of the time or date. This original idea was to offer a discount on the chicken to show appreciation to local officers.

However, when this image was posted on a Facebook page called Ohio Going Blue, it sparked many discussions. Despite receiving over 10,000 likes and 6,000 shares, there were differing viewpoints. Some commenters questioned the necessity of giving this offer to the police, while others expressed that as officers, they would prefer not to be given special attention and would pay for it themselves.

One of the comments from the Facebook page admins sheds light on the intention behind this initiative: “This is a positive post, but some of you can’t see the bigger picture. As an officer, I do not go into any establishment expecting ANYTHING to be free, whether I’m in uniform or not. There are other officers who feel similarly. We don’t like ‘special treatment.’ The reason for the post is because KFC is acknowledging law enforcement. To those who stated that other first responders should also be acknowledged, my answer is ABSOLUTELY.”

Despite the media interest and varying opinions, the sign will remain posted in the store. It serves as a salute to the officers who put their lives at risk for us each day. Let them know that we appreciate their efforts.

We would love to hear your thoughts on this initiative. Leave your comments below and don’t forget to share this post with your friends and family!
