When Stacy, a 31-year-old Nigerian woman, gave birth in February of last year, little did she know that her twins would be so unique. Meet Daniel and David, the adorable twins who have captured the hearts of many with their distinctly different appearances.
While Daniel takes after his older sister Demilade, with dark skin and black curly hair, David stands out with stunningly pale skin and golden hair. The twins’ dissimilar looks make them the center of attention wherever they go.
Stacy, their proud mother, decided to share their journey on Instagram, and within a year, they gained nearly 18,000 followers. The twins’ birth was a surprise to everyone, including Stacy and her husband, Babajide.
“I had no idea about their differences while I was pregnant,” Stacy explains. “The scan didn’t reveal anything unusual. So, when Daniel came out with black hair and David came out with golden hair, it was a moment of awe and wonder. The doctors confirmed that we were blessed with completely unidentical twins.”
To Stacy’s delight, her husband was overwhelmed with joy. He immediately named David “Golden” and lovingly refers to him as Mr. Golden. He couldn’t take his eyes off his little miracles, declaring them to be God’s wonderful work and his best gift ever.
But what makes David truly extraordinary is that he falls into the rare category of albinism. Only one in 20,000 infants is born with this condition. Albinism is a congenital condition that affects the pigmentation in the skin, hair, and eyes.
Despite Nigeria having one of the highest prevalence rates of albinism in the world, with over two million confirmed or suspected cases, the albino community still faces prejudice and discrimination. More than 600,000 albino Nigerians experience harassment and discrimination, which often leads to difficulties in education and employment.
Fortunately, Stacy shares that her sons are adored unconditionally, and she has never heard anything negative about them. People are often curious and drawn to their cute and adorable nature, wanting to know their story and say hello.
The twins’ unique features have attracted modeling offers from agencies in the UK. The family is open to exploring any opportunities that may come their way. Stacy and her husband have created an Instagram account to share their joy and shed light on important issues faced by individuals with albinism.
“They have two different amazing personalities,” Stacy proudly says. “They are now over a year old, walking, and very playful. Daniel is more expressive, while David is an observer. They are both highly inquisitive, but Daniel is a foodie while David is a bit picky. Daniel is extremely playful, while David chooses his moments. Daniel always takes on the bigger brother role, and they both have endless energy.”
