Are your furry friends wreaking havoc on your entry rug? Don’t worry, you’re not alone! Lucky the cat was causing all sorts of trouble for the author’s entry rug, leaving them worried about the condition of the subfloor. But they were determined to find a solution and embarked on a project to upgrade their flooring with beautiful and durable hexagon tiles, similar to the ones in their kitchen.
Step 1: Preparation is Key
With a plan in mind, the author got to work. They carefully removed the old flooring, clearing the way for the new tiles. To protect against moisture, they applied waterproofing using Schluter Kerdi membrane and AquaDefense liquid membrane. This step was crucial for preserving the longevity of the tiles and preventing any potential damage.
Step 2: Lay the Tiles
Once the preparation was complete, it was time to lay the tiles. The author used rapid-setting thin-set mortar to secure the hexagon tiles in place. After the tiles were set, they patiently went through the grouting process. Grouting can be a bit messy, but it’s an essential part of the project. To clean up any excess grout from the tiles, they found that using baby wipes was quite handy.
Step 3: Flexibility and Polished Look
To add flexibility to the flooring, the author left exterior gaps between the tiles and other flooring. These gaps were meant for caulking, allowing for any shifts in the flooring without compromising its integrity. The caulking also helped hide any irregular cuts and contributed to a seamless and polished look.
A Practical and Visually Appealing Space
With the edges properly caulked, the project was complete! The new entryway not only solved the cat-related challenges but also transformed the space into a practical and visually appealing area. Now, you no longer have to worry about wet and muddy shoes, as the new floor is designed to withstand the elements.
Upgrade Your Entryway Flooring
This project, born out of necessity, turned a previously ruined floor into a functional and aesthetically pleasing space. So, if you’re facing similar challenges with your entry rugs, why not consider upgrading your flooring? With a little bit of effort and some beautiful tiles, you can create a resilient and welcoming entryway for your home.
