During a 2019 interview with the Sunday Times, Soul acknowledged his wife’s crucial role in his recovery from numerous health setbacks. He described himself as a fighter and expressed gratitude for Helen’s unwavering support throughout his journey. Without her, he believed he wouldn’t have made it. 
Following his success in Starsky and Hutch, Soul appeared in several TV shows, including some based in the UK after he moved there. Despite being offered lucrative opportunities in reality television, he declined them, stating that he didn’t see the value in becoming a celebrity for the sake of it. He believed that true happiness lay in his family and used his platform to advocate for animal rights, supporting organizations fighting against cruelty.
