Kids can be quite unpredictable, and they often say things that catch us off guard. Sometimes it’s adorable, but other times, it can be quite embarrassing. One Redditor recently found herself in a tricky situation when her outspoken six-year-old made a comment at a funeral that didn’t sit well with everyone present.
The Redditor, a 26-year-old mother, shared that she and her child, who has ADHD, were attending a funeral when her son made a comment that many people found rude. After everyone finished singing a song and silence fell over the room, her son turned to her and said, “it’s a good thing she’s dead and she doesn’t have to hear all that awful singing!”
Understandably, the mother felt mortified when people around them gave them dirty looks. However, it wasn’t until later when her grand aunt approached her and suggested she punish her son for his behavior. Despite apologizing on behalf of her son and making him apologize as well, the mother refused to punish him.
“I did apologize and made him apologize too,” she explained. “But I’m not going to punish him for telling the truth. Let’s be honest, some of you did sound like a cat whose tail got stepped on!”
Unfortunately, her grand aunt didn’t appreciate her response and accused her of raising a disrespectful child. Now, the mother is concerned that her aunt may have caused unnecessary drama, as there have been talks of her and her son not being invited to future events.
So, was the mother wrong for not punishing her child or at least explaining to him why his comment was inappropriate? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
