Earlier this month, fans of beloved actor Tom Hanks were left worried and concerned when a video surfaced showing him struggling to control the shaking of his arm. Speculation ran rampant, with many fearing that the iconic actor could be grappling with a serious health issue like Parkinson’s Disease or something equally distressing. However, it is important to note that Hanks has been actively promoting his upcoming movie, a biopic of Elvis Presley where he portrays the King of Rock and Roll’s manager.
Filmmaker Baz Luhrmann, originally from Sydney, Australia, chose to film the Elvis movie in Brisbane. As a nod to his Australian roots, Luhrmann decided to premiere the film along the famed Gold Coast, which is only a mere fifty miles away from Brisbane.
On June 4, 2022, Hanks attended the movie’s premiere alongside the film’s star, 30-year-old Austin Butler, who delivers a stellar performance as Elvis Presley himself.
Addressing the crowd in Australia, Hanks expressed his appreciation for the Gold Coast and its unique filming opportunities. However, keen-eyed fans noticed the actor’s hand shaking as he held the microphone, leading to a wave of concern on social media and rampant speculation about Hanks’s health.
While speaking to the audience, the hand holding the microphone began to shake uncontrollably. In an attempt to steady the shaking, Hanks placed his left hand on the microphone beneath his right hand and even switched hands to give his right hand a rest from the aggressive shaking.
Interestingly, the audience seemed oblivious to Hanks’s apparent health issue, showing their unwavering support and enthusiasm throughout the event.
During his address, Hanks also shared his admiration for Dan Murphy’s, an Australian liquor store chain, saying, “None of those other cities have Dan Murphy. What a man, who I got to know quite well.” The crowd applauded, unaware of the actor’s shaking hand.
Hanks has not publicly addressed the issue with his hand, instead opting to fly back to the United States in time for the film’s premiere at Graceland in Tennessee on June 11, 2022.
Speaking at the premiere, Lisa Marie Presley, Elvis’s daughter, commended Luhrmann and Butler for their portrayal of her father. She remarked, “I was quite young, but I still remember my father’s energy and his vibe. And Austin, he – what’s the word? – he nailed it.”
While fans remain concerned about Tom Hanks’s health, the actor has chosen to focus on his work and let the film speak for itself. The upcoming biopic promises to be a powerful tribute to the iconic Elvis Presley, and fans eagerly await its release.
