But there are celebrities and then there are superstars. Elton John falls into the latter category. That’s why the release of his memoir, Me, garnered so much attention.
Within the pages of Me, Elton John delves into a myriad of captivating stories. However, it was his words about the late King of Pop, Michael Jackson, that really struck a chord online.
Elton revealed that he met Jackson when he was just a young boy, describing him as “the most adorable kid you could imagine.” But over the years, Jackson changed in ways that were far from positive. Elton likened his transformation to that of Elvis Presley, sequestering himself away from the world and reality.
Elton believed that prescription drug use played a significant role in Jackson’s decline. He reflected, “God knows what was going on in his head, and God knows what prescription drugs he was being pumped full of, but every time I saw him in his later years, I came away thinking that the poor guy had totally lost his marbles.”
In a heartfelt statement, Elton added, “I don’t mean that in a lighthearted way. He was genuinely mentally ill, a disturbing person to be around.”
It’s no secret that Michael Jackson’s name has been associated with allegations of sexual abuse against minors. Even after his passing, this dark cloud has never fully dissipated.
To those rumors, Elton simply stated, “For whatever reason, he couldn’t seem to cope with adult company at all.”
Elton’s Health Update
At 75 years old, Elton John has been grappling with various health issues. As a result, he had to postpone and reschedule many dates on his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour until 2023 for his recovery.
Recently, reports emerged that Elton declined an offer to perform at King Charles’s coronation concert. While he famously performed Candle in the Wind at Princess Diana’s funeral, he won’t be attending the ceremony to confirm her ex-husband’s position as the new monarch of England.
