Laura’s dishwasher stopped working, so she called a repairman. Since she had to go to work the next day, she left clear instructions for the repairman. “I’ll leave the key under the mat. Fix the dishwasher, leave the bill on the counter, and I’ll mail you a check. Oh, and please do not talk to my parrot!”
The next day, when the repairman arrived at Laura’s apartment, he was greeted by the biggest, meanest bulldog he had ever seen. But as Laura had promised, the dog just lay there on the carpet, watching the repairman quietly.
