Deciding to remove a loved one from life support can be an incredibly difficult decision, especially when the prognosis looks bleak. Ryan Finley faced this heart-wrenching choice when his wife, Jill, slipped into a coma. Despite the grim outlook, Ryan clung to hope and prayed for her recovery.
When Ryan discovered Jill unconscious and unresponsive, he did everything in his power to save her before the paramedics arrived. With a weak heart and shallow breathing, Jill’s condition was critical. Thankfully, the paramedics arrived just in time and were able to resuscitate her.
Jill was swiftly taken to the Oklahoma Heart Hospital, where she received specialized care, including a cooling suit to protect her brain from further damage due to oxygen deprivation. Unfortunately, her condition left her in an unconscious state.
Despite the grim diagnosis from the medical staff, Ryan held onto hope and continued to pray, even when recovery seemed unlikely. However, as time went on, he was faced with the agonizing decision of whether or not to let Jill go.
In a diary entry, Ryan expressed his anguish and the hardship of having to make such a heartbreaking decision. Ultimately, he considered Jill’s desires and chose to let her go, sparing her prolonged suffering.
As the family gathered to say their final goodbyes to Jill, the life-support machine was turned off. The doctors warned that she may not pass away quickly due to the “final rally.” During this time, Jill surprised everyone by murmuring about her favorite Mexican restaurants, Ted’s and Melting Pot, expressing her wish to visit them before asking her husband to take her there. Though saddened, Ryan had faith that Jill would pull through.
Miraculously, Ryan’s optimism paid off. Jill not only survived but also underwent heart surgery and a lengthy recovery that allowed her to breathe independently for the first time. Although she had no recollection of her time in a coma, Jill faced challenges with her short-term memory and had difficulty pronouncing certain words and phrases.
Jill’s incredible recovery was made possible by cutting-edge medical technology and the unwavering support and hope of her family. In the face of adversity, Jill’s inner strength granted her a second chance at life, leading her and her loved ones to cherish each day.
Even while battling COVID-19 and mourning the loss of her husband and sister to the virus, Jill’s prayers were answered as she progressively healed after an extended period on a ventilator. At the age of 65, this grandmother was given another opportunity at life. Her overall health was satisfactory, and she was determined to make the most of this precious gift.
Jill and her daughter, who stood by her side throughout this difficult journey, were overjoyed that their bond remained as strong as ever. Jill now cherishes every minute and values her time with loved ones more than ever before. Witnessing her loved ones succumb to devastating illnesses shifted her perspective, and she no longer takes anything for granted.
