Church sermons can sometimes be long and tiring, especially for those who are not morning people. In a recent incident, a couple in their 50s found themselves struggling to stay awake during a lengthy speech at their local church. While the husband managed to fight off sleepiness, his wife eventually succumbed to exhaustion and dozed off.
Seeing his wife asleep, the husband decided to gently wake her up by pressing her with his finger. Little did he know that this would lead to an unexpected turn of events. Just as he touched her, the priest asked the congregation a question.
The question posed by the priest was about who had liberated the Israelites from slavery in Egypt. Startled from her slumber, the wife blurted out, “GOD!” before quickly falling back asleep. The unexpected response caught the attention of some fellow churchgoers, causing a few suppressed chuckles.
As the sermon continued, the priest asked another question, this time about who had given their life for the forgiveness of sins. Again, the wife woke up abruptly and confidently exclaimed, “JESUS CHRIST!” Her answer was met with amused glances from those around her.
Despite her husband’s attempts to keep her awake, the woman dozed off several more times during the sermon. Each time she stirred awake, it seemed to coincide with the priest asking a question. It became a comical routine of her being jolted from sleep and giving unexpected responses.
Towards the end of the sermon, the priest posed a lighter question to lighten the mood. He asked, “What did Eve say to Adam after they had their last child?” In a slightly irritated tone, the wife, now wide awake, retorted, “I swear to God, if you poke me with that thing one more time, I’m going to take it and snap it in half.” Her response had the whole congregation bursting into laughter.
The incident served as a lighthearted reminder that sometimes even the most solemn of settings can turn into moments of laughter. It also highlighted the importance of staying engaged and alert, even during lengthy sermons. After all, you never know when a question might be asked, and you certainly don’t want to give unexpected answers in your sleep!
