Julia Roberts Reveals the Fate of Richard Gere’s ‘Pretty Woman’ Character

Julia Roberts, known for her iconic roles, recently shared her thoughts on what some of her famous characters would be up to in 2023 during an interview with CBS Mornings. While discussing her role in “Pretty Woman,” the actress gave a surprising answer: Richard Gere’s character, Edward, is no longer alive.

According to Roberts, Edward passed away peacefully in his sleep from a heart attack, smiling, and now Vivian, Roberts’ character, runs his business. This unexpected revelation adds a darker twist to the beloved fairy tale romance.

Interestingly, this somber conclusion aligns more with the original script of “Pretty Woman.” Originally titled “$3,000” after the amount Edward pays for Vivian’s companionship, the initial script depicted Vivian as a struggling drug addict. In the end, Edward breaks up with her when she can’t overcome her addiction. However, as the project evolved and the chemistry between Gere and Roberts became apparent, the filmmakers decided to give the movie a happier ending.

Roberts’ speculation about Edward’s fate serves as a correction, bringing the story closer to its original intent. It seems that the character was always meant to have a more tragic destiny. Rest in peace, Edward!

In the interview, Roberts also shared her thoughts on other famous characters she portrayed. She believes Mulroney’s character in “My Best Friend’s Wedding” is still happily married to Cameron Diaz’s character. Additionally, she imagines that her character in the film, Jules, has a DIY show on HGTV with Rupert Everett’s character, George.

Roberts’ new movie, “Leave the World Behind,” is now available for streaming on Netflix. Don’t miss the opportunity to see her in this latest project!
