Finding out you are pregnant can be a big surprise for any parent. But finding out you are having triplets? That’s a whole new level of unexpected! Just ask Becki Allen, who couldn’t believe her ears when the doctors told her the news. Little did she know, she was in for another big surprise.
After giving birth, Becki discovered something extraordinary – she had given birth to three identical triplets. This is an incredibly rare occurrence, happening only once in every 200 million births. Can you imagine the odds?
Becki and Liam, living in Liverpool, England, had always dreamed of expanding their family. They had discussed having more children in the future, but they never could have imagined having triplets. Early on in Becki’s pregnancy, she experienced severe headaches and illness. Concerned, the doctors decided to schedule an early ultrasound, revealing the incredible news – she was expecting not just one, but three babies!
The shock of this revelation was overwhelming for Becki. Reflecting on the moment, she shared with the Liverpool Echo, “It was the biggest shock of my life! We haven’t got any triplets in the family, so it came completely out of the blue.”
On the fateful day, Becki gave birth to three healthy boys – Roman, Rocco, and Rohan. However, the birth was not without its challenges. The boys were delivered by C-section at just 31 weeks into the pregnancy, weighing between 3 and 5 pounds. They had to spend their first few weeks in intensive care.
Normally, with triplets, there can be serious complications, and it is rare for all babies to survive. But, against the odds, all three boys made a remarkable recovery, growing and gaining a healthy weight. After about a month, they were finally able to leave the hospital and go home.
Now, you might be wondering, how do you tell apart identical triplets? That’s a great question. Even though the doctors initially claimed the boys were not identical, everyone who visited thought otherwise. In order to get a definitive answer, Becki and Liam decided to seek the help of a DNA testing company that specialized in this area. And guess what? The results confirmed that the boys were indeed genetically identical. This just goes to show how rare identical triplets truly are.
While they may look the same to the casual observer, Becki admits that she can tell them apart, especially when they sleep. Each of them has their own unique personality, and they even have slight differences. They all have dark birthmarks between their eyebrows, but Roman’s is slightly darker than the others. Additionally, Rohan has a birthmark on his leg. These subtle distinctions make them even more special to their parents.
Raising triplets comes with its own set of challenges. Becki spends almost $100 a week on diapers alone because they go through nearly 150 diapers every week. She also has to buy five packs of wipes every week. It’s a lot of work, but it’s all worth it for the joy and love these little boys bring to their family.
Their older sister, Indiana, couldn’t be happier with her three little brothers. Becki shared, “Indiana loves them. She’s not one bit jealous. I do feel a bit sorry for her when I think about what it’s going to be like growing up with three little brothers, though!”
Just looking at these three adorable boys, it’s easy to see why they are bound to receive so much love and attention in the future. They are truly a blessing to their parents and siblings.
