A hiker named Meredith Langley encountered a massive snake-like creature during her outdoor adventure. This extraordinary event has captured the attention of the South Carolina Hiking club, and for good reason!
In her Facebook post, Langley described the snake’s ability to blend seamlessly with its natural surroundings. It was as if the creature had mastered the art of camouflage. Langley took the opportunity to educate her own children about the importance of staying close while exploring the trails.
The snake in question is a non-venomous brown water snake from the Nerodia genus. Greg Lucas, a biologist with the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, confirmed this fact. These water snakes may appear larger than they actually are due to their thick, muscular bodies. On average, they grow to be between 30 and 60 inches long.
Langley mentioned that encounters with copperhead snakes, as well as water snakes and water moccasins, are not uncommon in the area. The snake she came across measured at least four feet in length when fully extended. What’s remarkable is that it showed no signs of fear or aggression towards Langley and her children.
Observing the creature’s calm demeanor, Langley inferred that it possessed a deep understanding of its own capabilities. The snake seemed to have a sense of self-assurance and confidence, only resorting to self-defense when absolutely necessary.
