A farmer in Australia had quite a surprise when he went to collect the daily delivery of eggs from his hens. One of the hens had laid a giant egg, three times the size of a normal egg, weighing 6.2 ounces! This babushka egg was laid by a free-range chicken at Stockman’s Eggs on the Atherton Tablelands, in north Queensland.
Scott Stockman, the owner of the business, couldn’t believe his eyes when he saw this incredible discovery. He and his staff took a photo of the giant egg next to an average-sized one, highlighting just how unusual it was. But what they found inside the egg was even more extraordinary.
When they cracked open the giant egg, they discovered another egg inside, perfectly formed. Two eggs together in one! Scott told ABC News Australia, “It’s just incredible actually – to have two perfectly formed eggs together.” An expert from Charles Sturt University’s veterinary sciences school was equally amazed, saying he had never seen anything like it before.
According to Associate Professor Raf Freire, the hen must have produced an egg as usual but didn’t lay it for some reason. Then, the next day, instead of laying the first egg, another ovum was released. The chicken somehow decided to make its shell around both the previous day’s egg and the new ovum. It’s a truly remarkable and rare occurrence.
Now, you may be wondering if this double-layered egg is safe to eat. According to the experts, it would have been perfectly safe to consume. However, Scott mentioned that their farm produces a staggering 50,000 eggs a day, so they decided not to eat this unique find.
Isn’t it amazing how nature can surprise us with such unusual phenomena? If you found this story as incredible as we did, share it with your friends on Facebook. They’ll be just as astounded by this fascinating discovery!
