Jamie Farr: Finding Happiness Through Faith

Jamie Farr looks 'great' at 88 and says prayer changed his life

Jamie Farr, known for his success as an actor, reveals that his true happiness came from discovering his faith and the love of his life. Growing up in a low-income family, Farr’s parents instilled in him strong values that shaped his character. They taught him the importance of helping others, including the homeless in their neighborhood.

Despite facing mockery for his nose during his youth, Farr’s unwavering faith in God led him to pursue acting. He believed that his purpose was to entertain and help people, and he worked tirelessly to achieve his dreams. His hard work paid off when he was cast as Nathan Detroit in the Broadway revival of “Guys and Dolls.”

Before his breakthrough in Broadway, Farr attended acting classes and had minor roles in films. However, his momentum in the acting world came to a halt when he was deployed to Japan and Korea. Feeling disheartened, Farr turned to God for guidance and sought answers through regular church attendance.

Divine intervention arrived when a major studio decided to produce a movie about the life of Jesus titled “The Greatest Story Ever Told.” Farr, with his Middle Eastern heritage, believed there could be a role for him in the film. Although initially rejected, the studio’s change of heart offered him the opportunity to play Apostle Thaddeus. This revelation made Farr feel humbled by the experience and reconnected him with his faith.

With newfound success, Farr was finally able to marry his fiancee, Joy Richards, and provide financial stability for their family. Throughout their 60-year marriage, Farr remained grateful for the opportunity that changed his life. He credits his faith and the love of God for his happiness and success.

Today, at the age of 88, Farr continues to enjoy life and cherish the blessings that have come his way. He looks back on his journey with gratitude, knowing that prayer and faith were instrumental in shaping his path.
