Former first lady Rosalynn Carter, beloved wife of former president Jimmy Carter, has passed away at the age of 96. It was just less than 48 hours after she entered hospice care that she peacefully passed away at the couple’s home in Plains, Georgia. Rosalynn Carter was not only known as the wife of the 39th president but also as a passionate advocate for mental health and women’s rights throughout her life.
In a touching statement following his wife’s death, Jimmy Carter, who is currently 99 years old and under hospice care himself, expressed his admiration and love for Rosalynn. He described her as his equal partner in everything he had ever accomplished and expressed his gratitude for her wise guidance and unwavering support.
Rosalynn Carter is survived by her children – Jack, Chip, Jeff, and Amy – as well as 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Sadly, a grandson had passed away in 2015. Her son Chip issued a statement acknowledging the tremendous contributions his mother made in improving access to mental health care for Americans. He emphasized that her life of service and compassion serves as an example for all, expressing that she will be deeply missed not only by their family but also by the countless individuals who now have better mental health care and access to caregiving resources.
