Mary Summers, a 92-year-old woman from Texas, found herself in a difficult situation when she couldn’t afford to replace a worn-out tire on her car. Unbeknownst to her, a Texas state trooper overheard her conversation with the mechanic at Integrity Tires in Richmond, Texas. Little did Mary know, this trooper would soon come to her rescue.
A Costly Dilemma
When Mary took her car to the repair shop after rolling over a nail, she hoped to have just one tire patched up. However, Omar Oregueda, the mechanic, explained that all four tires were dangerously worn and needed to be replaced. The cost of the repairs, a whopping $600, was more than Mary could afford.
A Disappointing Departure
Heartbroken by the news, Mary prepared to leave the shop empty-handed. She slowly pulled her walker closer and prepared to stand up, her disappointment evident. Unbeknownst to her, the trooper was listening to the entire conversation from behind.
A Pleasant Surprise
Just before leaving the shop, DPS Trooper Drew Stoner quietly approached the desk behind Mary and left her a surprise. When Omar returned to speak with Mary again, he delivered incredible news – she would receive four new tires, at no cost. Mary couldn’t believe her ears and was overcome with gratitude.
A Generous Gesture
Not only did Trooper Stoner pay for the tires, but Omar also wanted to do something nice for Mary. He offered her a free oil change as well. Omar’s act of kindness touched Mary’s heart, and she tearfully expressed her gratitude.

In the previous year, he was awarded the Medal of Valor, the highest honor of the DPS, for apprehending a shooter and saving a woman with gunshot wounds.
