In a recent interview with conservative personality Tomi Lahren, Anheuser-Busch heir Billy Busch expressed his desire to buy back the entire company and restore its former glory. This comes after Busch hinted at his interest in reclaiming the Bud Light brand, which he believes has been ruined by the current owners.
Lahren brought up the topic of marketing and moving away from a fratty image, questioning whether it was the overall strategy of InBev or just the influence of a single person. She expressed concern about the lack of house-cleaning to eliminate individuals who hold negative views about their customers.
Former Bud Light marketing executive Alissa Heinerscheid’s comment was referenced, highlighting her belief that the brand needed to evolve and appeal to a broader audience. She emphasized the importance of inclusivity, a lighter tone, and representation in their campaigns. However, Busch saw this as a mistake, as it contradicted the idea of being inclusive by abandoning the fratty drinker.
Drawing a contrast between his ancestors’ approach and the current situation, Busch emphasized the strong relationship his family had with bar owners, restaurant owners, and liquor store owners. Even his 90-year-old father continued to personally sell Budweiser in the 80s. This connection and understanding of their core drinkers is something Busch believes InBev lacks.
In light of all this, Busch made a bold proposal to InBev, urging them to sell the Bud Light brand back to the Busch family. He expressed his willingness to be the first in line to buy it and vowed to make the brand great again.
With his passion for the legacy of Anheuser-Busch and his vision for revitalizing its brands, Billy Busch is determined to take control and restore the greatness that was once synonymous with the company.
