Rachel’s Inspiring Journey: Transforming an Ambulance into her Dream Home

Rachel’s journey of transforming an old ambulance into her dream home, lovingly known as the “Glambo,” is a tale of passion, perseverance, and the pursuit of freedom. Today, we’ll delve into the story of how Rachel’s spirit and creativity brought her extraordinary dream to life.

Rachel’s decision to turn an ambulance into her residence was bold and daring. While most ambulances retire after a decade of service, Rachel saw the potential in her 2006 Glambo. Despite its previous life as a plumber truck, she believed it had even more exciting adventures ahead. It took three months of hard work to strip it down and prepare it for its new purpose. Fortunately, Rachel’s father stood by her side during the tough times, providing the support she needed to persevere. The total cost of the Glambo, including renovations, amounted to around $20K-$25K.

At first sight, the Glambo is truly a spectacle to behold. Built on a 2006 Chevy Kodiak C 4500 chassis, this magnificent creation stretches an impressive 24 feet long and is eight feet wide. But what sets Rachel’s Glambo apart is the personal touch she added to transform it into a cozy nest. Despite the not-so-eco-friendly 6.6-liter Duramax engine, Rachel feels unstoppable on the road, thanks to its sturdy front.

Beyond its eye-catching appearance, the Glambo boasts impressive practicality. Rachel brilliantly utilized the exterior compartments for plumbing and electrical gear, allowing the interiors to remain spacious. To future-proof her home, she installed lithium batteries and a powerful solar setup. And here’s the cherry on top: the adorable mini windows used to be ambulance lights—talk about a glow-up!

Inside the Glambo, Rachel has created a world of comfort and personality. Through numerous tweaks and changes, the interiors now feature a snug couch, a twin bed, and storage that would make Marie Kondo proud. Every corner reflects Rachel’s personal touch, from her beloved tree painting to the quirky block project. The kitchen is a seamless blend of functionality and style, complete with a metallic sink and charming hexagon-themed tiles.

When it comes to the bathroom, Rachel didn’t settle for anything less than chic. Determined to have a shower, she crafted an elegant space with a striking black accent wall and waterproof tiles. And to ensure she could enjoy one of life’s essential comforts wherever she roams, she invested in a top-notch composting toilet.

Living in the Glambo has transformed Rachel’s life in unimaginable ways. She has shifted her focus from chasing work deadlines to chasing sunsets, finding peace and contentment that money cannot buy. In Rachel’s words, “I was seeking a happier mindset, a drama-free mindset, and just a peaceful sense of freedom.” The Glambo has given her the opportunity to embrace a new way of living, serving as a symbol of personal freedom and joy.

Rachel’s remarkable journey serves as a gentle reminder that joy often lies in the unexpected. It’s about pushing boundaries, reimagining what success means, and embarking on new adventures with courage. The Glambo, with all its quirks and unique features, showcases what’s possible with a sprinkle of creativity and a whole lot of determination. Rachel’s message is crystal clear: when something brings you joy, take the leap, embrace the challenge, and go for it.
