Michael discusses his friendship with Kelly Ripa years after they parted ways.

Michael Strahan, a former New York Giants defensive end, switched to television after retiring from football.

The Houston, Texas native rose to prominence as a football analyst on Fox NFL Sunday before co-hosting the syndicated morning talk show Live! with Kelly and Michael. He currently hosts Good Morning America, and it turns out that his split from Kelly Ripa was acrimonious.

Ripa was so taken aback when he decided to leave Live! with Kelly and Michael, she took a week off from the show to recover.

“I needed a couple of days to compose my thoughts; after 26 years with this organization, I earned the right,” Ripa told her audience. “(This) sparked a much larger discourse about professional communication, consideration, and, most importantly, respect… “I apologize.”

Strahan and Ripa won a Daytime Emmy for “Outstanding Talk Show Host” twice during his stay on the show, and their ratings kept rising.

Six years after leaving the program, Strahan revealed all about his relationship with Ripa, saying they don’t talk anymore. According to him, their relationship never recovered once he left the show.

“I learned from everything that happened with it; you can’t convince people to like you,” he stated in an interview with Time. “I haven’t spoken to her in a long time.”

Strahan has already hinted that things between him and Ripa weren’t always smooth behind the scenes while they worked together.

“I remained the same person I was from Day 1. I will not change my mindset to accommodate someone else’s. I learned so much from Kelly and (executive producer) Michael Gelman.

When it was time to go, it was time to go. Certain things behind the scenes just caught up with him,” he told Deadline.
